Each year, the Arts Council of Indianapolis offers a number of grant programs to artists and arts administrators in addition to arts organizations. One of these programs for individual artists is the Robert D. Beckmann, Jr. Emerging Artist Fellowship Program. This program awards two $3,500 fellowships each year to qualified and talented emerging artists in music, dance, theatre, literature, media and/or the visual arts. Recipients of the grant award may use the $3,500 for supplies, instruction, workshops, studio or rehearsal space, or other uses specifically related to the growth and development of the artist’s artistic work.
In addition to the monetary award, recipients will receive professional development and growth opportunities through the Arts Council of Indianapolis.
The Robert D. Beckmann, Jr. Emerging Artist Fellowship Program was introduced in 2008 and since then, has provided 20 emerging artists with a total of $70,000 to participate in activities. For the purposes of this fellowship program, we define an emerging artist as “an artist who shows exceptional promise, who has mastered the basic techniques in his/her art form, and who is attempting to launch a professional career in the arts.” Quite simply, it is an artist who is professionally unrecognized but stylistically evolved.
Qualified candidates may visit indyarts.org/beckmann to learn how to submit an online application due by Friday, June 23, 2017, 5 pm.
